WEB SHOPS
Looking at ways illustrators present their online shops

The first thing that stood out to me about this website was the unique layout and how you travel through the pages. It almost acts like a journey which is quite different to most websites. The first page acts like the menu and the illustrator has used their own voice and style to project on this first page.

Here is an example of how the pages look. As you click on each one you feel like you need to choose your path. The typeface they have created binds the text and image together really nicely on the page.

The shop pages are also quite unique and display the prints in a way like many others don’t. Rather than seeing the full print it zooms into a section of it which I think is clever as it engages people to click on the thumbnail of each one to see the full photo rather than quickly scanning over them all.

The info page is simple but effective displaying an image we can assume is some sort of self portrait in her style whilst giving out the necessary information to contact her to the side of it.

This web page has gone for a more modern and professional approach to a website by having clear labels and titles of where to go to find everything on the first page. It even as a logo in the top left and search bar in the top right feeling more like a company or brand than an artist which could be good as its clear and well made or might give the wrong idea to the audience.

This website also uses a grid format to display products which is neat and organised making it easy to browse the products being sold. It is quite nice to have graphics behind the products and the bright colours on the white background work very effectively.

I like the way he has created his own size chart as some people wont go about buying clothes without knowing the measurements. As a whole I would say this website sticks to being more function rather than form however this does prove that a website doesn't need to be overly complicated to work.

The colour scheme on this webpage is effective from the start by only using orange as the main source of colour but using dark colours like black and navy in contrast with the orange. It is also another website to use white as a background I think this allows the work to pop on a white canvas and appear more interesting.

It is quite hard to find a website that does not use a grid format to present their shop but even so they're all slightly different. With this one they make sure to put a product with a white background next to a product that has a busier background which almost creates a checkerboard effect. The thumbnail images are long than the other two pages but I personally prefer the look of perfect square thumbnails.

One thing that stood out to me was his "work" section on his website where he has a portfolio of jobs he has done for clients. I think it is presented very well with these large images which act as links to more detailed pages where you can see what his jobs consisted of. The page looks really attractive with the big images and the content was very interesting. I think having a portfolio on your website as well as a shop is a good idea and something I would consider.

The first thing I notice about this page is that it does not really have a main page or a page to greet you with which isn't necessary but often nice to have. You instantly see the cover art which is detailed and colourful in comparison to the bold dark background colour.

The dark background is a good choice for his work as it highlights his work as the primary all have plain white backgrounds. I also feel that the dark background fits with the mood of what the illustrator creates his work about due to his focus on mobsters, gangstas and all sorts of bad guys.

This website maintains the same format through out all the pages having the selection bar down the left side for easy access around the site and the consistent banner at the top. I feel like this works for this website but personally makes it feel less engaging than some of the others even if I do really like his artwork.
